About Break Through Tech and Sprinternships
Cornell Tech leads a nationwide initiative called Break Through Tech which was launched in 2016. Break Through Tech offers programming to college students and partnerships to employers nationwide; working at the intersection of industry and academia to propel more underrepresented students into tech education and careers.
Break Through Tech’s flagship program, the ‘Sprinternship ™’, is a micro-internship designed for women and underrepresented communities in tech early on in their college computing studies. Sprinternships provide work experience and a tech-industry résumé credential that can help students land their first tech internship. Sprinternships are built around several common features: Tackling a real business challenge while immersed in a host company’s culture; Strengthening a professional network and connections in the tech community; Working in a team of peers to help build collaboration skills and confidence. Students come from large public universities throughout the country- some of which already have established relationships with Break Through Tech and others who will be new partnerships.
