      Req#: 201629
The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Nematology. This is a 9-month tenure-track assistant professor position. The anticipated effort would be 65% Research and 35% Teaching. This position will report to the Department Head of Entomology and Plant Pathology.

The successful candidate is expected to develop an internationally recognized program focusing on the molecular, cellular, and organismal biology of plant-pathogenic nematodes and their host-parasite interactions, implementing contemporary genomic, biotechnological, and systems biology approaches.

The Nematologist would have documented education and experience that provide the foundation to teach nematology and related disciplines at the undergraduate and graduate levels. While there is no agricultural commodity focus for this position, the development of plant-nematode systems that have relevance to important plant-parasitic nematode species in North Carolina is preferred. The Nematologist would be expected to develop an independent research program that is competitive for extramural funding and advances the sciences of nematology, plant pathology, and biology.

The Nematologist is also encouraged to participate in research collaborations within DEPP and across departments. Secondary to the research program, the incumbent Nematologist would be expected to teach the nematology sections of Graduate classes (PP 501 Biology of Plant Pathogens, PP 502 Plant Disease: Methods and Diagnosis, and PP 707 Plant-Microbe Interactions) and participate in an undergraduate general education class in parasitology (for non-Majors) and nematology annually. The candidate is expected to participate in the training of M.S. and Ph.D. students and instruct guest lectures in classes upon request.
