Job Description

- Attend UNIV instructor orientation and training (beginning two weeks prior to classes in August).
- Teach 6 sections of UNIV 101 and/or UNIV 301 per semester (fall and spring):
- Term length for UNIV 101 may vary by student group (15-week, 7-week); UNIV 301 is 7 weeks.
- UNIV 101 is primarily in-person with select online sections for Arizona Online and Global Direct students; UNIV 301 is fully online.
- Provide support and mentoring for 10-14 part-time instructors.
- Work with other members of the full-time instructional team and Course Director to update instructional materials (course websites, instructor guides, etc.).
- Serve on Program, College and/or University committees as appropriate.
- Work with other members of the full-time instructional team and Course Director to contribute in one of the following areas:
- Ongoing revision of the course readers.
- Curricular iteration for UNIV 101 or UNIV 301 for subsequent academic years.
- Assessment of course level learning outcomes for UNIV 101 or UNIV 301.
- Engage in scholarship relevant to student learning, general education, student development, or other related areas. Scholarship is inclusive of a range of creative and research-driven projects that include Boyer’s (1990) categories of application, discovery, integration, and teaching and learning.
- Knowledge and demonstrated use of learner-centered teaching, universal design for learning, and inclusive teaching practices.
- Knowledge of and the ability to communicate the purpose and value of general education.
- Ability to establish rapport with students.
- Ability to use a variety of instructional technologies.
- Ability to work collaboratively with an instructional team.
- Knowledge of and ability to utilize effective means of team development and management, provision of feedback, and communication.
- Master’s degree or higher in Education, Higher Education, Student Development, or Adult Learning; or, Master’s degree or higher in any discipline plus 18 graduate units in Education, Higher Education, Student Development, or Adult Learning; or Master’s degree or higher in any discipline plus a minimum of three years teaching or professional experience working with first-year college students.
- One year experience teaching undergraduate courses.
- PhD or terminal degree in Education, Higher Education, Student Development, or Adult Learning; or, PhD or terminal degree in any discipline plus 18 graduate units in Education, Higher Education, Student Development, or Adult Learning; or PhD or terminal degree in any discipline plus a minimum of three years teaching or professional experience working with first-year students.
- Three years’ experience teaching undergraduate courses.
- Demonstrated scholarship focused on college teaching and learning, student development, or other related areas.

Assistant Professor of Practice (Career-Track) (Multiple Positions) (W.A. Franke Honors College in partnership with The Office of General Education is currently seeking to fill two positions for Assistant Professor of Practice (Career-Track). The primary teaching assignments for these positions will be UNIV 101 (Introduction to the General Education Experience) and UNIV 301 (General Education ePortfolio), two one-unit courses that bookend the General Education program for students at the University of Arizona.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, the Assistant Professors of Practice will provide support for a team of instructors also teaching UNIV 101 and UNIV 301 on a part-time basis and will work with the full-time instructional team and Course Director to update the curriculum for the two pre-designed courses. This is a nine-month academic appointment with the potential for summer teaching or administrative appointments.
Start date will be August 3, 2026 with a short-term contract prior to the Fall 2026 Academic Semester beginning. Additional compensation will be provided during this short term appointment.
These positions are housed in the W.A. Franke Honors College and will report to The Office of General Education.
This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure.
