OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Vice President, Human Resources is a caring, collaborative, proactive and hands-on leader who understands how to develop individuals and teams and is responsible for leading United Way’s human resource functions, including performance management, diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB), talent recruitment and development, organizational design, and human resource systems and processes which include payroll and benefits. The AVP is a subject matter expert across all aspects of human resources, and sets, enforces, and evaluates legally compliant human resources policies, procedures, and best practices, identifying and implementing long-range strategic diversity, talent and management goals. This position is a member of senior leadership and serves as advisor to the CEO and senior management to continue the evolution of organizational growth on tactical and strategic organizational and human resource issues. Establishes and maintains a collaborative working relationship with the President and executive team to enhance the culture, vision, mission and strategic goals of the organization.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Serves as coach and thought partner to the human resources team to develop and execute appropriate systems and programs that allows the department to provide effective and efficient services.
• Ensure the organization has effective workforce planning and talent acquisition efforts to support growth with a focus on new and emerging fundraising opportunities.
• In partnership with the executive team, lead the transformation of the organization to achieve our mission and vision.
• Embraces, enhances and stewards United Way’s culture, ensuring that employees continue to be engaged and motivated based on Gallup’s strengths-based leadership concepts.
• Ensure that the CEO and executive team have the “pulse of the organization” to make proactive and impactful organizational decisions. This will include skills in employee relations and conflict management.
• Updates and maintains a wage and salary system and a performance planning and employee evaluation process.
• Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the organization’s goals to provide and execute a strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
• Serve as senior advisor and confidant to the CEO as well as an advisor to the executive team on all human capital-related areas.
• Plans and leads the development and implementation of policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization’s human resource and strategic DEIB and cultural needs.
• Guides the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations.• Leads annual benefits renewal process in concert with benefits broker and Chief Financial and Strategy Officer.
• Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for United Way staff.
• Responsible for managing the organizations Savings and Investment 401(k) plan. Is a member of the Savings and Investment Administrative Committee.
• Monitors and ensures the organization's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
• Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
• Guides the development and implementation of departmental budget.
• Identifies competency, knowledge, and talent gaps and develop specific programs for filling the gaps. Launch cost-effective and strategically aligned training and development programs to retain staff, create collaborative teams and support career development.
• Provide expert guidance on complicated employee relations matters with the ability to weave a strong knowledge of employment law, business acumen, and culture into action.Qualifications

Experience
Required 10 years
Minimum of ten years human resource management experience at the leadership level, including supervisory, strategic planning, talent management and budget experience.
