Job summary
Come and join our Psychological Therapies Service (PTS), working with older people in Swindon, across inpatient and community settings. This role is suitable for either an experienced psychologist, or a newly-qualified psychologist on a preceptorship basis. We are a flexible employer and there will be opportunities for blended site-based and home working options.
Swindon Psychological Therapies Service (PTS) comprises a supportive team of Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists, CBT Therapists, a Family Therapist and Arts Psychotherapists. The Later Life branch of Swindon PTS is a small and friendly team including a Psychology Lead for Later Life, Art Therapist, Music Therapist, and other therapy colleagues. We have established links with local training providers in Clinical and Counselling Psychology and all PTS staff have access to regular activities to support their ongoing professional development.
Main duties of the job
The Victoria Centre is a thriving purpose-built centre where community teams and two inpatient units for older people are based. The role involves providing specialist psychological input to the functional (Hodson) and organic (Liddington) wards and supporting our Complex Intervention and Treatment Team (CITT), a multidisciplinary community team for older people with complex mental health needs.
This is a varied role with the opportunity to build continuity for the older people we care for: it offers you a wonderful environment in which to build your psychological therapy skills, by providing longer-term interventions when clients are discharged into the community. The successful applicant will be highly-motivated to provide a good quality, evidence-based psychological service and will have experience of working with individuals with complex psychological difficulties.
Both our ward teams and CIT team have dedicated multidisciplinary clinicians, with opportunities for consultation and training alongside the direct clinical work in the form of specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention. The CITT caseload is diverse, and we are seeking a psychologist with experience of working with older people with complex mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, and physical and neurological comorbidities.

About the company
National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
