      Circulation - Main Library (Work Study and Student Assistant)

      Position Summary

      Looking for four students to assist with daily tasks at the circulation desk at the main library. Main duties will be to check in library materials, answer phones, and help patrons. This position does require to work weekends.

      Federal Work-Study Awarded students preferred.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      • Provide back-up support for West Library by: answering telephones; greeting visitors; providing information; taking messages; informing staff members of callers’ needs and requests; and, routing calls and visitors.
      • Provide clerical support for the West Library including: processing incoming and outgoing materials; establishing and maintaining files; and, providing typing and data entry support.
      • Straighten up study areas daily to ensure clean, safe, and professional setting.
      • Other duties as assigned.

      Education, Certifications and/or Licenses

      • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
      • Some earned college credit hours preferred.
      • Work-Study eligible students preferred.

      Experience

      • Experience working in an educational setting preferred.
      • Basic computer experience.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

      • Ability to speak clearly, answer multi-line phone and take messages correctly.
      • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situation.
      • Ability to follow instructions and convey correct information.
      • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and changing priorities.
      • Ability to maintain confidentiality, while complying with FERPA and Library Policies.
      • Ability to maintain excellent Customer Service.
      • Ability to learn current library circulation procedures, including checking books in and out.
      • Ability to learn and implement Library of Congress organizational system for shelving books.
      • Ability to pick up a minimum of 20 lbs.
      • Ability to stand while shelf-reading.
      • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
      • Knowledge of administrative system and current software programs.
      • Knowledge of Microsoft office.
      • Knowledge of standard office practices and procedures, including filing.
      • Ability to exhibit flexibility and problem-solving.
      • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with a diverse group of visitors.
      • Ability to complete job tasks and assignments thoroughly, appropriately, and in a timely manner.
      • Ability to work on weekends.
      • Ability to complete all physical tasks as needed.
