What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Accurately assign and sequence ICD and CPT codes for inpatient and outpatient records
- Utilize computerized encoding systems to ensure coding accuracy
- Collaborate with medical staff to obtain necessary documentation for coding
- Maintain a coding accuracy rate of 96% or greater while meeting productivity requirements
- Review chart documentation for accurate diagnosis and procedure reporting
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Completion of an approved coding program with AHIMA or AAPC approval status
- Minimum of 3 years of recent coding experience in an acute hospital setting
- Certification as CCS, CIC, COC, RHIA, or RHIT through AHIMA or AAPC
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with outpatient coding and emergency department records
- Additional coding certifications beyond the minimum requirements
