Job summary
With the impending retirement of our clinical lead in Palliative Care after 23 years in post, we are advertising for a new Consultant in Palliative Medicine to work with the hospital Specialist Palliative Care Team at CHFT and The Kirkwood Hospice in Kirklees. The postholder will join an established team of a further four consultants in palliative medicine. Last year the hospital team received 1200 referrals, of whom 1066 received input from the team. There have been exciting developments within the team recently, including the development of Band 4 Palliative Care Support Workers, dedicated in-reach for the respiratory care unit, and the start of a seven day service in September 2022. The Kirkwood has 16 inpatient beds admitting patients with both cancer and non-cancer diagnoses.
Applications are encouraged from experienced consultants wishing to take up a new challenge or newly accredited consultants who will be supported through our highly regarded development programmes. The post holder is encouraged to develop his/her own sub-specialty interest.
Main duties of the job
It is anticipated that this will be an 8PA post. There will be a requirement to travel to sites where patient care is provided including both hospital sites and The Kirkwood Hospice. The postholder will provide consultant clinical input to support the hospital palliative care team, and undertake a consultant inpatient ward round and inpatient MDT input at The Kirkwood. The postholder will also cross cover for palliative consultant colleague absence.
There is a current 1:8 out-of-hours on-call rota
