Job summary
We are seeking a dynamic individual committed to excellence in service delivery to join our first-class team of consultants at the Royal Brompton Hospital. This is a new full-time substantive post for a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine with expertise in Home Ventilation, Sleep and end-stage lung disease.The post offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of the UK's leading specialist centres for heart and lung disease. The successful applicant will provide high quality clinical care across inpatient, outpatient and community settings, while also engaging in research, education and service development. The role combines 0.5 clinical and 0.5 academic duties and forms part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering outstanding patient-centred care and advancing innovation in respiratory medicine.
It has also been agreed that the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity will also provide financial support to the applicant for the first five years which can be used for any legitimate scientific use (for example defraying patient expenses, buying reagents, publication charges)
Main duties of the job
The post includes 0.5 clinical and 0.5 academic/research duties which is whole time equivalent, with a provisional job plan outlined in appendix A.The appointee will join 3 part time and 1 full time (currently locum) physicians to provide specialist disease management. Clinical care is delivered through a mix of inpatient care, day unit review and outpatient (both face to face and virtual) clinics. Additionally, the role will include providing medical input to the outreach team (including visiting patients receiving home ventilation in their own home or in a nursing home) and supervision of AHP led pathways for the delivery of sleep related diagnostics and treatment.The major clinical meetings are the polysomnography MDT, which generally lasts an hour, CPAP non adherence MDT, outreach MDT, triage MDT and cross-site difficult OSA MDT, and the weekly grand round held in the Respiratory Directorate.There may be an opportunity in due course to join the respiratory on call roster (1:12) but this is not an expectation of this post.To co-develop the service, integrating advances in diagnosis and management and informing colleagues of these developments.To participate in and develop clinical and organisational audit and to improve standards of the service wherever possible.
