- All Criminal Records Analysts receive an additional hourly amount added to their base pay, depending on how long they have worked for the Criminal Records. This is in addition to other types of pay, including market adjustments and promotions.
At the Louisiana State Police, our mission is to safeguard communities and strengthen trust by maintaining accurate, secure, and accessible criminal justice information. We’re seeking Criminal Records Analysts to join the Applicant Processing Section of the Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information, Louisiana Criminal Justice Information Systems—the state’s central repository for criminal history records.
This section plays a vital role in supporting law enforcement, licensing agencies, and the public by managing fingerprint- based background checks and processing applicant criminal history information for both state and federal requirements.
In this role, you will process, verify, and maintain sensitive criminal justice data that directly supports public safety across Louisiana. Analysts review and research applicant fingerprint submissions, reconcile inconsistencies, and ensure criminal history records are accurate and compliant with state and federal regulations. The position requires attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to handle highly confidential information with accuracy and integrity.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for six months of the required experience.Job Duties:
As a Criminal Records Analyst at BCII, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy, security, and accessibility of Louisiana’s criminal history records. In this role, you will:
-Enter money received as payment for processing background checks, crash reports, and concealed handgun permits into an automated accounting program that must be balanced daily.
-Accesses and maintains manual or electronic criminal history records, user agency files, crash reports, and concealed handgun applicants stored in various filing or computer systems.
-Accesses fingerprint cards by using the Henry Classification System.
-Generates criminal history rap sheets to be mailed out or electronically transferred to various agencies as an update.
-Files, reconciles, and processes incoming requests for connection and access to criminal justice networks.
-Receive, classify, reconcile, and file criminal history records and applications from criminal justice agencies and the public.
-Research, verify, and resolve incomplete or inconsistent data by accessing multiple automated criminal history systems.
-Update and maintain computerized criminal history files, including expungements, fingerprint submissions, sex offender registry, and background checks.
-Communicate with courts, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and the public regarding criminal history records, processes, and requirements.
-Scan, index, and upload official documents such as crash reports and mugshots into state and national databases.
-Prepare accurate documentation and reports to support compliance with state and federal standards.
-Provide technical assistance and training to local, state, and federal agencies on the proper use of criminal justice information systems.
-Make confidential inquiries into highly sensitive computerized files while adhering to strict security and confidentiality guidelines.

Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional
Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Criminal Records Analyst 1, 2, or 3.
Work Schedule: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday–Friday
Compensation: Eligible for premium pay of up to $2.00 per hour. Starting salary $32,781 up to $56,181.New employees receive an extra $1.00 per hour worked as soon as you are hired! See the chart below:
