      Job summary

      The post of the Deputy Chief Pharmacist is responsible for supporting the Clinical Director - Pharmacy & Medicines Optimisation in all aspects of medicines optimisation and management of risks associated with medicines across the Trust. In this way, the post holder contributes directly to overall performance of the Trust under the leadership and direction of the Clinical Director - Pharmacy & Medicines Optimisation:

      • To lead, manage and develop the clinical and patient focused Pharmacy Services to ensure that patients receive safe, high quality and clinically effective pharmaceutical care.
      • To oversee the clinical risk management assurance and ensuring compliance with medicines legislation.
      • To manage the Lead/ Advanced Clinical Pharmacist Teams to ensure optimum service delivery.
      • Able to lead on the development of a clear vision and strategy for the future delivery and transformation of all pharmacy services provided across the Trust and be able to articulate this to all staff and stakeholders. This is in accordance with best practice, benchmarking, and national guidance.
      • Lead on the development of an underpinning pharmacy workforce plan to maximise the use of skill mix (pharmacist, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy support workers), address any service gaps and / or risks.
      • To assist with the management of the Pharmacy budget and cost improvement initiatives.

      Clinical Responsibilities

      • To lead, deliver, develop, and evaluate specialist clinical Pharmacy Services across all Trust sites.
      • To assess and review clinical Pharmacy input into all teams to ensure services are safe, equitable and appropriate.
      • To develop and monitor standards of practice across all sites.
      • To develop a strategic vision for clinical Pharmacy Services across the Trust
      • To communicate the vision to senior Trust managers, senior clinical staff within the Trust, SLA sites, ICB and other relevant commissioning bodies. To identify and manage risks and changes inherent in the current and proposed models of service provision.
      • To assist theClinical Director - Pharmacy & Medicines Optimisation in developing business cases within the department - including undertaking any relevant tasks (e.g. undertaking options appraisals, benchmarking across the Foundation Group or regional peers)
      • To continually review clinical Pharmacy Services to ensure priorities concur with local and national initiatives.
      • To identify resources required to deliver local and national agendas.
      • To lead the Pharmacist prescribing agenda and manage the change, conflict, risks, and resources necessary to drive forward the national initiative at local level.
      • To provide professional support to the Pharmacy Deputy General Manager and Chief Pharmacy Technician
