- Capture digital images of specimens.
- Handle (select and refile) herbarium specimens.
- Transcribe specimen data from digital images into database, including georeferencing.
- Participate in public outreach.
- Coursework in Biology and/or museum or library studies.
- Experience with digital photography and herbarium procedures preferred.
- Current undergraduate, graduate student, or recent graduate
- Be able to work closely with others as part of a team.
- Be able to work efficiently and with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with global geography.
- Understanding of written languages other than English a plus.
The Digitization Intern - Global assists with imaging and databasing 200,000 NYBG bryophyte and 50,000 lichen herbarium specimens in the William and Lynda Steere Herbarium at The New York Botanical Garden as part of a multi-institutional NSF-funded project: Digitization TCN: Collaborative Research: Building a Global Consortium of Bryophytes and Lichens: Keystones of Cryptobiotic Communities.
