      Job Description Summary

      The Director of Development (DoD) for the College of Business is responsible for building and leading a comprehensive development program with a focus on major, leadership, and principal gifts to support the initiatives of the assigned college and Tarleton State University. This position is expected to work closely with advancement leadership, the academic dean, and faculty to establish a robust philanthropic program within the college. The DoD is responsible for ensuring high standards of quality, productivity, consistency, and accuracy for all development-related information. The DoD is knowledgeable about and operates in compliance with all gift administration/tax policies and regulations. The DoD ensures the ongoing and effective operation of a defined area and works closely with university and advancement leaders, as well as other staff, to develop, prepare, coordinate, and execute a development program, with annual and long-term strategies, designed to meet the financial goals of the institution and congruent with the University’s Strategic Plan. Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM and as needed to meet objectives and assignments. The scope of the job will often require work to be done outside of normal business hours. Travel required to multiple work site locations.

      Major Responsibilities/Duties/Tasks

      Under the direction of the Senior Director of Development, in consultation with the college dean, the Director of Development creates and executes strategies and systems designed to engage target constituents and secure philanthropic support on behalf of the college and Tarleton State University.

      • Cultivate existing relationships to increase current philanthropic support.
      • Work closely with Institutional Advancement and college leadership to develop fundraising priorities.
        • Proactively identify new prospects and build relationships with the intent of securing major, leadership, planned, and principal gifts.
        • Make personal visits, create proposals, and write digital correspondence as primary methods of donor engagement. Plan, organize, coordinate, and manage daily activities to maximize gift solicitation efforts and events.
        • Use all available University resources to identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift support to college and university programs.
        • Collaborate with University partners/other development officers or units to coordinate fundraising strategies for donors with multiple interests.
        • May work to design donor and volunteer cultivation events to attract and retain interest in the college and affiliated programs.
        • Proactively represent Tarleton State University and the college at external events to identify prospects and grow the network of support.
        • Develop and manage a portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation prospects capable of making significant gifts to secure gift commitments. Plan and implement programs that include measurable targets and metrics for each fiscal year (e.g., cultivation, personal visits, stewardship activities, solicitations).
        • Works to ensure timely and accurate completion of proposals, pledges, and fund agreements. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of prospect strategies and contact reports, evaluate new prospects, and generate reports and other correspondence as necessary to cultivate prospects.
        • Under a partnership with the Dean, participate in the recruitment, training, and management of a College External Advisory Council where applicable.
        • Other duties as assigned by advancement leadership.

      Minimum Requirements

      To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Major Responsibilities/Duty/Task satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

      • Bachelor’s degree. Master’s Degree Preferred.
      • Five (5) years of fundraising experience, with preference given to fundraising in higher education.

      Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

      • Knowledge of fundraising, public relations, marketing, and/or sales.
      • Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated record of completing tasks.
      • Knowledge of database, word processing, and spreadsheet applications
      • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
      • The ability to be customer service-oriented and bring together various institutional partners with varying interests is essential.
      • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively and harmoniously with others.
      • Problem-solving skills, creativity, positivity, and the ability to manage several assignments simultaneously are required
      • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
      • Critical thinking and lifelong learning skills.

      The target base annual salary may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
