DoD Skillbridge Intern - Systems Engineer

Job Description

- Support concept development and early architecture definition for human spaceflight systems.
- Participate in requirements definition, flow down, assessment, and verification activities.
- Develop and review system-level documentation, including:
- Concepts of Operations (ConOps)
- Verification & Validation (V&V) plans
- Interface definitions
- Hazard analyses
- Assist with system-level trade studies and risk assessments.
- Support major milestone reviews such as SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, or SAR depending on assignment.
- Collaborate with NASA engineers, contractors, and internal technical teams across multiple disciplines.
- Work within an integrated team environment and provide status on progress, challenges, and required support.
- Maintain a professional and responsive relationship with NASA customers and partner organizations.
- Perform other duties as required in support of NASA human spaceflight missions.
- To have served at least 180 days in any of the U.S. Armed Forces
- To be within 180 days of separation or retirement from any of the U.S. Armed Forces (you may start your application prior to the 180 days)
- Must be on track to receive an Honorable Discharge
- Must have taken any service TAPS/TGPS
- Must have attended or participated in an ethics brief within the last 12 months
Must have command approval to participate in the DoD SkillBridge program
Eligible for US Government Top Secret security clearance
Self‑motivated team player, adaptable to a dynamic environment, able to complete assignments as required
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong customer service attitude with effective coordination and negotiation skills
Ability to effectively communicate across a wide range of technical disciplines, vendors/contractors, customers, and leadership
Experience preparing written documentation, presentations, and verbally presenting in meetings
Experience organizing and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines with limited supervision
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Ability to collect, interpret, and articulate stakeholder needs
Experience with systems engineering fundamentals such as requirements development, design trades, concept development, or risk analysis

** This is a temporary role not to exceed 6 months. **We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineer (SkillBridge) to join our team supporting NASA Johnson Space Center under the JETS contract. This SkillBridge role is designed for transitioning military service members seeking hands-on experience in aerospace systems engineering and technical integration.

Essential Functions
Work Environment
Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
Equipment and Machines
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
Attendance
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
Other Essential Functions
