      Airbus Helicopters is the world’s largest helicopter manufacturer and the company’s site at Oxford Airport is Britain’s civil helicopter hub.

      AHUK offers considerable experience in helicopter sales, bespoke completions, maintenance and spares support. Its in-house engineering capabilities include design, customisation, installation, flight-testing and certification, as well as technical support, maintenance, training and the supply of spares for civil and military applications.

      AHUK is the MoD’s chosen provider of helicopters and maintenance for its Defence Helicopter Flying School (referred to as MFTS) located in RAF Shawbury (Shropshire) and RAF Valley (Anglesey).

      Description/Overall purpose of the Job

      In the framework of Airbus strategy to develop Electric Propulsion Systems for aeronautic applications, we are partnering with a UK-based company. To support our partnership and to build an integrated development team, we are looking for a Mechanical and Gearbox Design Engineer.

      Main responsibilities

      • Gearbox and mechanical Design, in cooperation with our partner and Airbus home base specialists, following Airbus design standards
      • Ensure manufacturability by close cooperation with Industry
      • Introduction of changes to existing design
      • Collection and respecting applicable standards and requirements (incl. stress, loads, vibrations, fatique)
      • Respecting all technical domains, e.g. lubrication, cooling, failure considerations, monitoring, sensors
      • Configuration Management of prototypes
      • Establish test and qualification strategy to verify the design, establish test orders in cooperation with testing department
      • Support prototype assembly and maintenance at the facility

      Education, Qualifications or Training

      Essential

      • Master’s degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering.
      • Significant experience in gearbox design and manufacturing (aeronautical experience is an advantage)
      • Experience in the integration of electric motors, power electronics, gearboxes, cooling systems, ideally in high-performance / safety-critical applications would be appreciated
      • Experience with CATIA and/or, Solidworks (DMU Environment)
      • Experience in multidisciplinary environment/systems engineering
      • Awareness for test instrumentation, measurement and control
      • Awareness for environment, health and safety
      • English language spoken fluently

      Desirable

      • French and German would be appreciated.

      Additional requirements

      Due to the nature of this position you will require DBS Security Clearance and be eligible for SC clearance.
