The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Central Design and Engineering Services is looking for a Engineer/Architect 2 to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
What you will be doing:
This position plans, manages, supervises, and controls all the activities necessary for the development and preliminary design of multiple small to large, capital improvement projects of varying complexity by coordinating the efforts of in-house design staff and/or private architectural and/or engineering consultants, functional groups within the Department, and other outside agencies. The position supervises professional engineering staff, mentoring in project management, project design, and consultant contract management duties.

The mission of the CR Highway Design Section is to develop roadway improvement projects from planning through advertisement to the contracting community. Many of these projects are designed by in-house staff under your direct and indirect supervision, but also through contracts you and your staff develop with private engineering firms. You will be responsible for approximately a dozen of those projects, depending on size, worth several million dollars. You will develop and manage the projects with the in-house teams, consultants, coordinate with various support groups, agencies, and local government entities, manage the scopes, schedules, and budgets of the projects, maintain progress reports for management, and be responsible for problem-solving

The working environment you can expect:
This position is located in Anchorage or Wasilla, depending on the applicants preference. The Anchorage office is located at 4111 Aviation Avenue, Anchorage, AK. This work location allows you many options to live and play near a wide range of fantastic outdoor areas and urban community activities. The Wasilla office is located at the Mat-Su District building in Wasilla, AK located at 500 S Seward Meridian Parkway. The Mat-Su District Office (MDO) space has been recently renovated and is centrally located between the cities of Palmer and Wasilla. There are options for teleworking in accordance with department policies. Office hours are flexible and allow for short work weeks in accordance with established policies. This position requires limited travel within the state, primarily southcentral Alaska. Trips are typically day-trips occurring once a month.

Minimum Qualifications
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect, and one year of professional experience as an Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineering Associate with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent.
Special Note:
Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
