      Job summary

      This is a fixed term/secondment post until 30/10/2026 due to maternity cover. If you are a Hywel Dda University Health Board employee and are applying for this post as a secondment, agreement for the secondment is needed from your current manager prior to application.

      An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen for a qualified Occupational Therapist to join Ammanford CMHT on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave - an established team within the Community Adult Mental Health Service. The postholder will have proven experience and an aptitude for working holistically with clients with mental health needs.

      You will act as a care co-ordinator under the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010, for cases that mainly require occupational therapy (OT) involvement and hold a caseload of OT-specific cases. You will practise using recovery principles, including Recovery Through Activity groups. You will be working collaboratively with the patient, their family/carer and the Third Sector. You will utilise OT outcome measures to demonstrate the value of OT for increased independence and prevention of hospital admission.

      You will provide clinical support to an established OT TI team.

      Main duties of the job

      There is an established Clinical Practice Group for all MH OTstaff and links with other specialist forums and networks.

      You will:

      • Work as part of a designated team to deliver an effective and efficient OT service, to improve the health and well-being of people.
      • Deliver the service in a manner and setting appropriate to the needs of the client group, following professional codes of conduct and ethics and national and/or locally agreed guidelines, protocols, policies and care pathways. This may include working with colleagues oralone, with individuals and groups; in people's homes, communitysettingsand hospitals.
      • Autonomously manage an occupational therapy caseload of a designated client group, which includes those with complex presentations. This will involve selecting and undertaking assessments, developing person-centred plans, delivering interventions, evaluating outcomes and adapting the plan of care based on outcomes.
      • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide rehabilitation/recovery/reablement, focused on the needs of the individual.
      • Work collaborativelywith colleagues from Health, Local Authorities and Third Sector Organisations to achieve best outcomes.
      • Support team operations, dealing appropriately with enquiries and undertaking administrative tasks relevant to the role

      You will support the induction, education and development of others, support quality improvement, taking responsibility for defined projects and appropriately delegate work to, and supervise the work of, Occupational Therapists, Support Workers, Students and Volunteers as required.

      You will be proactive in developing your clinical skills and competencies, supported through planned supervision, ongoing personal development plans with regular reviews and CPD opportunities.

      You will require effective communication, organisation and clinical decision-making skills, with enthusiasm and passion for this specialist field. You will provide clinical support and guidance to OT support workers and OT students. Duties will include being a mentor and assessor for the Agoredsupport worker diploma, and provision of regular, formal staff supervision.

      You will be supported through regular, planned supervision, professional appraisal reviews and continued professional development opportunities. MH Occupational Therapists have access to clinical practice meetings and opportunities to engage in study in subjects relevant to practice area.
