Zayo’s 141,000-mile network in North America and Europe includes extensive metro connectivity to thousands of buildings and data centers. Zayo’s communications infrastructure solutions include dark fiber, private data networks, wavelengths, Ethernet, and dedicated Internet access. Zayo serves wireless and wireline carriers, media, tech, content, finance, healthcare and other large enterprises.

Zayo is seeking a Fiber Network Inventory Manager who will be responsible for the production of a team of Fiber Network Inventory Specialists (FNIS) under the Fiber Operations organization. The FNIS team is specifically responsible for the data integrity of our fiber infrastructure and physical assets. This includes building new network into our fiber inventory systems, recovering missing fiber network, and improving data quality overall for our fiber plant records. This team is critical to the front line of our network data quality, specifically by adhering to our standards and nomenclature which support our customer service platform and GIS analysis tools. The Fiber Network Inventory Manager position will be responsible for ensuring the FNIS team is strictly adhering to these standards, and also completing task lists accurately and in a timely manner.

The Fiber Network Inventory Manager responsibilities may also involve various efforts in alignment with fiber engineering and operations teams, and the overall integrity needs of our fiber network infrastructure. Engineering experience will be required to support various stakeholders and provide accurate direction to the team (i.e. Business Units, Network Planning and Optimization, Operations and Field Services, and Architecture teams). A successful candidate must possess a strong project management background, an understanding of various fiber plant technologies and deployments, excellent communication skills, and proven team management and training skills while thriving in a fast-paced, cross-functional organization.

      Responsibilities:

      • Manages a team responsible for recovering and interpreting civil engineering prints (asbuilts) of new network installs to manually build fiber assets and construction details into GIS inventory systems.

      • Manages the quality control and various data cleanup efforts of our Zayo network physical inventory through database tracking of fiber optic cable, conduit, building data, and more. This includes enforcing network data standards, processes, and consistency of deliverables.

      • Ensures fiber optic database is current and accurate by overseeing the data input of physical fiber assets and fiber enclosures into the data management systems.

      • Organizes and tracks all Build Segment and FNIS tasks and dependencies, and reports on missing or inaccurate data.

      • Develop strong and supportive relationships with internal Zayo stakeholders to drive delivery of tasks and projects on time.

      • Facilitates cross-functional communications amongst team members to foster timely resolution of project obstacles.

      • Provides support to Fiber Engineering and Outside Plant construction teams as needed.

      • Works alongside fiber network and GIS analyst teams to ensure data accuracy.

      • Organize a team to strong production levels using and reporting on metrics and SLA’s.

      • Must possess strong training abilities and experience. Heavy team training will be required, often to individuals who are green to telecom.

      • Serve as project point-of-contact and escalation.

      • Provides weekly metric readouts to supervisors and engineering leadership.

      Qualifications:

      • Minimum 2 (two) years of experience leading training or managing personnel.

      • Minimum 2 (two) years of experience with related fiber network inventory systems required.

      • Bachelors’ degree in related Engineering field, or 4+ years of relevant telecommunications engineering experience.

      • Strong understanding of designing routes for fiber-based services including point to point, ring configurations, FTT, and network reliability.

      • Experience with data center and carrier hotel connectivity and telecommunications facility environments preferred.

      • MS Office application capabilities required (i.e. Excel/Visio/Word); programming/scripting skills preferred.

      • Excellent written and verbal communication/negotiating skills required toward technical/non-technical audiences.

      • Proven project management skills required to balance timelines and priorities of projects.
