      Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) provides leadership by developing, promoting, and coordinating programs that influence public and private policy by increasing public awareness of highway safety issues.

      Job Summary:

      This position coordinates a number of grants for the agency. The agency administers highway safety funds for the state on behalf of the governor. Typical grants that the position administers range from 20-30 agencies (police departments, sheriffs, non-profits, other governmental agencies) covering anywhere from 20-50 grants across multiple program areas and covering upwards of a few million dollars.

      This position ensures that funding is being spent appropriately (only on contracted items) and in a timely fashion (within the time parameters set in the contract). This is done through frequent monitoring, telephonically or in person, of subgrantees and reviewing complex financial statements including timesheets and bid sheets for equipment.

      In addition to administering individual highway safety grants, this position plays an integral role in managing other projects and efforts on behalf of the agency as assigned by the agency director.

      Job Duties:
      • Manage specific grants - ensure that funding is being spent appropriately (only on contracted items) and in a timely fashion (within the time parameters set in the contract). This is done through frequent monitoring - telephonically or in person - of subgrantees and reviewing complex financial statements

      Selective Preference(s):
      • Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred from accredited college or university
      • Research capabilities

      Preferred:
      • Knowledge of federal grant processes, including processing, administering and monitoring grants

      Pre-Employment Requirements:
      • Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
      • Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment
