- Experience with 3D CAD
- Experience in 2D drafting, GD&T, and tolerance analysis
- Strong engineering fundamentals (solid mechanics, kinematics, dynamics)
- Master of problem-solving including the use of the scientific method, root cause analysis, and DOE creation
- Applied knowledge of electrical circuits, material science, and basic chemistry
- Excellent written and verbal communication and leadership skills
- Team Oriented: be able to thrive in a collaborative multi-functional environments
- 4+ years of hands-on detailed product design experience in consumer electronics products are a plus
- Design and/or research experience with haptic technologies are a plus
- Experience in the design and application of electromagnetic and piezoelectric actuators are a plus
- Expert knowledge of electro-mechanics and dynamics are a plus
- Proficiency with data analysis tools (JMP, MATLAB, Excel, etc) are a plus
- High volume mass production experience (DFM) are a plus
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $131,500 and $243,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Summary
The Haptic Engineering team develops state of the art haptic solutions that are central to Apple’s products, including the iPhone and Apple Watch. Our key goal is to enable the world’s best user-experience and explore the possibilities using haptics. We are a highly multi-functional team working in a hands-on environment that values creativity, engineering excellence, and passion for innovation. New challenges arise every single day that require the sharp analytical skills of talented and forward-thinking individuals. We are seeking a Product Design / Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and validation of next-generation haptic actuators and experiences.Key QualificationsDescriptionYou will have end-to-end responsibility for the mechanical design and integration of a haptic actuator from concept to production. You will be expected to: • Brainstorm concepts and solutions to haptic related challenges • Prototype, evaluate, and debug innovative ideas • Design and define mechanical components and assembly schemes • Generate detailed specifications and drawings • Analyze static and dynamic structures to quantify fundamental device performance • Participate in the development of new manufacturing and assembly processes with external vendors (including periodic international travel) • Validate and characterize designs through multiple iterations • Conduct failure analysis and design of experiments (DOEs) to resolve root cause and implement corrective actions • Generate new intellectual property You will be working in a collaborative environment with multi-functional teams that specialize in diverse areas of expertise. Your responsibilities will include: • Collaborating with Industrial Design and system engineering groups to determine and achieve both functional and aesthetic goals • Designing for manufacturability with Process, Manufacturing Design, Technical Operations, and other cross-functional teams • Communicating multi-functionally and throughout management structure on a regular basis (written, verbal, and presentation) • Managing and tracking multiple priorities within schedule requirements • Leading design reviews and design documentation releasesEducation & Experience• M.S. or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Solid Mechanics or Physics • Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experienceAdditional RequirementsPay & BenefitsAbout the company
