About the position
Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust are seeking to appoint a Clinical Engineering expert, professionally registered as either a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer, or Clinical Scientist to lead its medical device service. The post holder will provide the Trust with strong leadership and strategic direction in the field of medical engineering and medical device management.
Medical engineering is a highly specialised clinical scientific service concerned with providing safe, and effective medical device management to clinical users of patient connected diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment throughout the Trust. The service is delivered by a specialist team engaged in overseeing all aspects of medical equipment management, which spans planning, evaluation, selection, commissioning and operating life, and maintenance through to safe, ethical disposal, and replacement. Therefore, comprehensive practical knowledge; relevant qualifications and management skills; technical expertise of managing such services working with highly specialised medical devices and multi-disciplinary teams across the organisation are fundamental to this position.
Main duties of the job
Provide leadership in the highly specialised field of Medical Engineering Management within Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust.
The role of the Medical Engineer is to support and advance patient care and safety by applying engineering and managerial skills to healthcare technology. The Head of Medical Engineering leads the services provided by the Medical Engineering Department to ensure compliance of Medical Devices to external standards within the regulatory environment (eg CQC regulation 15). The Head of Medical Engineering is the professional and technical lead for strategic development of Medical Devices services, including policy, compliance, training and development of replacement programmes, and has overall responsibility for the maintenance, reliability, and accuracy of the medical device records database for the Trust, Integrated Care System (ICS) and healthcare partners, the service provided holds a direct relationship with patient care.
