The Role
This role is instrumental to the success and the overall strategic direction that the underwriting of our London Market business takes. This role will continue to help shape the direction we take and the way we monitor and track the delivery of our underwriting strategies. Alongside key projects you will also be responsible for overseeing our run-off portfolio.
The role requires you to interact on a daily basis with the London Market CUO applying your analytical mind-set alongside a strong commercial understanding to help optimise the London Market portfolio. This element of the role is extremely varied, however an example set of projects include:
1. Analysing individual lines of business against plans, tracking performance against expected/budgeted outcomes, and reviewing profit to capital
2. Identifying trends in the performance of the business unit and recommending core actions to help improve the underwriting result
3. Analysis of the business unit performance relative to our peers
4. Production of Board reports, QBR papers for each line, longer term strategic plans, and communicating the performance and strategy of London Market to the LMLT and Group CUO
5. Developing sustainable underwriting strategies that can inform plans for meeting the Hiscox’s ESG commitments of the futureYou will be expected to work on these projects independently, but you will have direct exposure to the senior management of the business unit and will be expected to help drive the strategic direction of London Market.
Examples of high-profile projects undertaken in this role have included Loss Portfolio Transfers, setting up of the ESG 3033 sub-syndicate and developing a framework for managing balance and volatility of Hiscox London Market.
This role will directly influence and shape the London Market underwriting strategy in order to make the business more profitable.About the company
