      Responsibilities JOB SUMMARY: Has a thorough working knowledge of HIPAA Privacy Practices and Release of Information. Knowledge in electronic medical record. Participates in Performance Improvement activities – concurrent and retrospective chart reviews and other duties as assigned. Reconciles daily census report and maintains the Master Patient Index. Coordinates daily charts for dictators to complete discharge summary. Responsible for the maintenance of the Permanent and Incomplete Record Area. Assist physicians and other hospital employees. Coordinates release of information to the next level of care provider at discharge. Assembles discharge records. Analyzes and tags records for deficiencies. Enters data into departmental computer system. Assist with clearing completed records. Scans completed medical record after verifying all documents are completed in its entirety. Files discharge summaries and other miscellaneous reports. Retrieve records as requested. Answer department telephones. Participates in employee orientation and on-the-job training. Complies with hospital policies, procedures, and state/federal regulations regarding confidentiality of records. Will assume other related responsibilities and duties as assigned. Qualifications JOB SPECIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency in the criteria listed in this job description. The specifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. Education: High School Diploma Experience: Two years medical records experience preferred Licensure/Certification: None required Knowledge: Working knowledge of medical terminology and good organizational skills. Good written and oral communication skills. Computer literacy skills and typing skills required. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with other employees, physicians and the general public. Supervision Received: Medical Records Supervisor Supervision Exercised: None Line of Promotion: Medical Records Coordinator Working Conditions: Works in the Medical Records Department, the inpatient units and other areas of the Hospital. Possible exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids and other hazardous waste. General hospital environment. Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Push, pull and lift up to 40 pounds. Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping. Repetitive keying and typing.
