      SUMMARY

      This position is responsible for providing Human Resources services in the functional areas of Employee/Labour Relations, Recruitment and Selection, Training and Development, Performance Management, Compensation and Benefits and Employee Communications. This position is also responsible for the communication and consistent application of company policy and procedures, developing practices and programs that align with business strategy and objectives, and providing leadership and consultation to the Management Team on all matters related to effective HR management.

      RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Provides leadership and consultation to Management in the areas of employee relations, performance management, salary and performance review, corrective action and documentation, recruitment, and selection, coaching and development, and policy/legislation awareness.
      • Ensures the maintenance of a positive employee relations climate through the development of policies and programs to improve employee satisfaction; the implementation of activities to assess climate/culture; the promotion of inclusive communication practices; and the resolution of employee issues through the effective use of open door, and investigation and counselling techniques.
      • Advises on legislative changes and/or trends in HR; ensures on-going legal compliance with all relevant provincial employment legislation and HR policy; and ensures consistent and fair policy and practice application.
      • Actively participates in the department’s strategic plan by providing input and consultation on HR issues.
      • Manages the recruitment, orientation, and training planning processes within the established budget to ensure the appropriate level and quality of resources are in place.
      • Ensures selection, transfer, and promotion processes are in place; develops cost-effective recruitment strategies; counsel Managers on selection and total compensation issues; identifying significant issues/trends and recommending changes as needed.
      • Develops, sources, and delivers training programs and provides advice and resources on training/education/career development options. Conducts training needs analysis where appropriate and ensure the tracking of all training/developmental activities
      • Ensures effective and efficient administration in the areas of employee records and HRIS; CSST claims management; compensation, benefits and pensions and other employment programs.
      • Manage and submit Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) claims, ensuring accurate documentation and timely processing.
      • Ensure compliance with the collective agreement by regularly reviewing and interpreting its terms, providing guidance to management and staff, and addressing any issues or grievances that arise to maintain adherence to contractual obligations.

      EXPERIENCE

      • Minimum of 2 to 5 years in Human Resources field as a Human Resources Business Partner, preferably within a unionized environment.
      • Understanding of Employment Standards and legislation
      • Excellent PC skills, including Microsoft office suite; advanced Word skills required
      • Well-developed written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
      • Extremely organized, strong attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize.
      • Experience working in a professional and confidential capacity
      • Payroll and benefits experience an asset

      EDUCATION

      • Post-secondary education/certification in Human Resources preferred
      • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP)
