      Job Description :

      A little about us:

We are seeking a general assignment reporter to join our team of reporters and editors focused on live and trending stories. This team works at the pace of the news cycle, so … fast! We focus on live blog coverage during breaking news and events, finding unique angles and entry points into the big stories and cultural conversations of the day, and on being first to spot and report on emerging trends. We are always experimenting with new formats and modes of storytelling to connect and engage with our audience, and to attract new users. We seek to reach a broad audience, to elevate diverse voices, and to highlight and report on communities and groups often underrepresented in mainstream media. We are multi-platform and our stories appear on our site and are translated into social and other formats, often with our reporters appearing on camera for social video content.

      A little about you:

You are curious, driven and passionate about connecting people with the stories that matter to them. You have experience working as a reporter in a fast-paced newsroom environment, meaning you pick up the phone, focus on the facts, reach out to sources and can report and write well-crafted stories quickly. You are plugged into conversations happening in social communities as part of your news-gathering process. You have fresh ideas for stories and formats and can identify important narratives that have not gotten media attention. You will have a proven track record of producing published work that starts and shapes conversations. Not required, but a plus if you have some experience covering politics or elections, as the 2024 U.S. presidential election will be a big reporting priority and we will seek to cover the important issues by elevating human stories.

      Responsibilities:

      • Manage multiple projects effectively and meet several daily deadlines – for example one day’s work might involve contributing to a breaking news live blog, work on one of our core new formats like the Yahoo News 360 while also collaborating on a video versions of your work for TikTok and other social platforms

      • Attend regular editorial meetings that outline daily content priorities and planning for longer term projects and news priorities

      • Pitch creative angles to help Yahoo News differentiate from our network of content partners, then work closely with editors to shape, report and publish stories

      • Find new ways to make our journalism pop and reach diverse audiences.

      • Interact with an array of teams, including social media (including creating social video), video production, audience development, curation and copy editing.

      Qualifications:

      • Approximately 3-7 years of professional experience.

      • Professional and adaptable in a fast-paced, innovative technology environment.

      • Solid news judgment and a strong portfolio of digital reporting.

      • Able to identify the stories that are likely to trend.

      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

      • Passion for innovative digital storytelling experiences.
