Locum Appointment for Service (LAS) in Psychiatry within Child & Adolescent Mental Health
(Fixed Term Appointment until August 2026)

LSW is an integrated organisation delivering community, mental health, and social care services to the residents of Plymouth, as well as community healthcare to West Devon and South Hams. As a social enterprise, we work collaboratively across boundaries to meet the needs of the NHS patients we serve. We are seeking candidates who are:
Registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practise
Able to demonstrate at least four months experience in a psychiatry rotation.
Although this is not a recognised training post, it offers excellent supervision and valuable experience. Whether you are considering core psychiatry training, primary care training, or simply wish to broaden your experience outside an acute hospital setting, this role provides a strong foundation for your future career.

Main duties of the job
LSW CAMHS Tier 2 and Tier 3 services cover the City of Plymouth. We also provide assessments for children and young people presenting to Derriford Hospital following selfharm, or those requiring CAMHS input as paediatric inpatients. The service operates as an integrated system of teams within a mainstream CAMHS model.
LSW also hosts the Plym Bridge Unitone of four inpatient units within the Southwest CAMHS Provider Collaborative. This newly designed 12bed unit serves a population of approximately two million.
Our CAMHS workforce includes Consultants, Training Grade Doctors, Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Primary Mental Health Workers, Family Therapists, Art Therapists, and dedicated managerial and administrative teams.
Additional Services
Mental Health Support Teams in Schools (MHST): Although not part of formal CAMHS delivery, MHST sits within the CAMHS management structure due to the expertise required to support this pilot. The team focuses on early emotional health and wellbeing support and currently covers 35 schools with a team of 16.
Learning Disabilities and Autism Programme (LDAP): Another pilot hosted within the CAMHS management structure, LDAP supports young people with autism and/or learning disabilities who are at risk of admission to a Tier 4 mental health setting. The team works closely with young people and families to ensure timely, appropriate support and to prevent hospital admission wherever possible.
