      AVAILABILITY: 40 hours a week. Must have open availability especially in the evenings and weekends.
      Tentatively a 6-month internship

      PURPOSE:

      • The Community Relations + Events Intern will assist Community Relations + Event staff with planning and execution of community events, and processing/creation of various outgoing donations at Mall of America.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

      • Assist community relations + event staff with planning and execution of large-scale events.
      • Assist with planning phases of Toddler Tuesdays and Mall Stars programs including booking weekly entertainment, event logistics, execution and budget management.
      • Assist with planning phases of the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon military initiative program, including assistance with various Military activations for the Mall and MOA team members.
      • Assist with planning and execution of Mall of America 30th Birthday initiatives
      • Complete promotional recaps that include copies of all event advertising to send to clients.
      • Research potential event partners and sponsors for annual spectacular events.
      • Provide creative ideas to make Mall of America events unique and attractive to draw new customers.
      • Ability to perform physical tasks such as pulling pallets, walking extensively, moving boxes, etc.
      • Assist with organization of community relations + event videos, photo archives and event equipment and supplies.
      • Fulfill requests for event information and event proposals received via email and voice mail.
      • Fulfill non-profit donation requests.
      • Opportunity to coordinate small scale events.
      • Performing other duties as assigned.

      PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

      • Recent graduate or currently pursuing degree in Marketing, Advertising, Hospitality, Public Relations or Communications.
      • Experience in event planning and execution. Experience can include internships and extracurricular activities/events.
      • Strong organization skills.
      • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required.
      • Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, email.
      • Flexibility to work varied schedules including weekends, evenings and holidays.

      PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

      • Frequent Walking/Standing: 60%
      • Sitting: 40%
      • Lifting (boxes, event equipment, sometimes over 50lbs): 50%
      • Pushing/Pulling up to 100 lbs: Occasional

      COMMITMENT:

      The Community Relations + Events Intern is a full-time position requiring 40 hours a week, including evenings and weekends. Mall of America also requires that the Community Relations + Events intern spend a minimum of 3 months interning with the option to extend to 6 months, if in mutual agreement.

      PAYMENT:

      Payment is $16/hr with no benefits since this is a temporary position. Mall of America is also ready to complete the proper paperwork so the student can receive school credit.
