- Manage incoming media requests and work with members of the media team to set up scholar interviews.
- Write and distribute press releases and pitch members of the media on the Mercatus Center research.
- Complete media data analytics projects to help improve and grow the reach of Mercatus Center research.
- Create and execute media campaigns and work with various teams to accomplish scholar goals.
- Develop relationships with journalists and become a reliable liaison for policy research.
- Build and maintain strategic, issue-focused media contact lists.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and self-starter
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and balance multiple short- and long-term projects without direct supervision
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (plus if candidate has editing experience)
- Diligent research and reporting skills
- Interest in the topics of economic opportunity, international trade, pluralism, civil exchange, and classical liberalism
- Ideal candidate will have a deep interest in news media and public relations

The Mercatus Center at George Mason University is seeking a creative and entrepreneurial individual to join our team as a Media Relations Coordinator or Associate. The ideal candidate is eager to pursue unconventional and high-impact media opportunities which effectively promote Mercatus ideas to emerging and traditional media alike. This role is responsible for timely vetting and handling of external media requests, coordinating infielder projects, assisting with the dissemination of Mercatus research and ideas to members of the media via activities such as pitch writing and promotion, and more. This role will work closely with members of the Communications and Marketing, Policy Research, and Outreach teams, and will report to the Director of Media Relations.
