  Mercy St Louis Region Summer 2025 Nurse Extern Program

  Are you interested in gaining more clinical experience during your school break while earning extra money? If the answer is yes, Mercy’s extern program may be just what you are looking for. Our Externs will have the opportunity to gain additional preceptor clinical experiences at one of the following hospitals and be paid at an hourly rate while doing so:

  • Mercy Hospital South(10010 Kennerly Road,St. Louis, MO 63128) no longer accepting applications
  • Mercy Hospital Jefferson (1400 US Highway 61, Festus, MO 63028)
  • Mercy Hospital Southeast (1701 Lacey St, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701)
  • Mercy St. Louis (615 S New Ballas Road, Saint Louis, MO 63141) no longer accepting applications
  • Mercy Washington (901 East 5th Street, Washington, MO 63090 ) no longer accepting applications

  Mercy South & Jefferson will have one 8-week session:

  • June 2nd - August 2nd

  Mercy Southeast will have two options:

  • One 4-week session for those who attend school out-of-town from June 2nd - 27th
  • One year long session for those who attend school locally, beginning June 2nd. Students will have alternating weeks as an Extern and Nurse Tech.

  Deadline for Applications is April 30th, 2025.

  Requirements for application- completed 2 semesters of nursing school by start of externship.

  Participating in a Mercy Externship this summer will help you...

  • Better understand the nurse role in an acute care facility
  • Build more confidence in providing direct and indirect patient care
  • Engage in additional clinical preceptor time to increase approved nursing skills under the direction of your preceptor:

  • IV therapy
  • Foley care
  • NG tube care and tube feeding
  • ostomy care
  • POC, phlebotomy and specimen collection
  • simple dressing changes
  • Participate in head-to-toe assessment
  • Trach care
