      About the position:

      We are seeking an Ontology & Standards Specialist to join our team and be part of a cutting-edge organization that is revolutionizing the way we approach data discoverability, search, and product development. The Ontology & Standards Specialist will work closely with the ontology team and stakeholders to develop and implement strategies for ontology development and standards integration.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Develop and integrate reference ontologies and clinical data standards to improve data discoverability, search, and product development.
      • Contribute to scientific research and development within data representation and data modeling, including researching the fundamental concept of meaning of scientific terminology and applying language models to translate from human understanding to machine understanding.
      • Participate in research projects and task forces within R&ED as an ontology and standards expert to design and use research-relevant ontologies.
      • Lead and contribute to the technical implementation aspects of integration of data standards, including the development and maintenance of associated metadata, documents, business rules, and guidelines where applicable.
      • Translate the needs of the analytics teams into use cases for bridging the research needs of standards and ontologies.
      • Communicate and advocate the value of Novo Nordisk’s efforts in ontologies, semantics, and standardization across the business.
      • Evangelize the use of controlled vocabularies and data management best practices, ultimately making it a high-value resource within the organization.
      • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant technologies, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines.

      Qualifications:

      The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ontology engineering, with a focus on developing and integrating reference ontologies and clinical data standards to improve data discoverability, search, and product development.

      For this position, you have:

      • MS or PhD degree or equivalent experience within Bio-ontologies, semantic technology, clinical standards, metadata management and data integration
      • 3+ years of experience in ontology engineering, with a focus on developing and integrating reference ontologies and clinical data standards.
      • Knowledge of w3c languages and tools, such as OWL, SKOS, SHACL, etc.
      • Strong understanding of one or more area of clinical data standards and requirements including data acquisition and tabulation, CDISC (CDASH, SDTM), reporting and analysis (CDISC ADaM), regulatory data submission, etc..
      • Skilled communicator with expert knowledge of integral industry standards while being capable of communicating complex ideas clearly to a broader audience.
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
      • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
      • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
      • Experience with data governance policies and procedures related to ontology management is a plus.

      About the department

      The newly established department of Data Governance and ontology aims at digitising data from early research. With the implementation of FAIR principles, the department aims to govern and optimise data integration and apply interoperability using semantic solutions. The long-term goal of the department is to create a digital mindset and radical transparency through the implementation of FAIR principles across pipelines. The department plays a key role between research scientists, application developers, and data modellers by ensuring data quality and consistency at source.
