      Job summary

      We have an exciting new opportunity for a Paramedic Practitioner to join our urgent care team and work within the wider PCN. Hours are negotiable, part-time working will be considered for the right candidate who is able to offer flexibility.

      The role offers the opportunity to learn new skills and gain knowledge. As this is an ARRS role, the successful candidate will need to meet the requirements for the First Contact Practitioners (FCP). We will provide dedicated time and supervision to help achieve this. We will also support you to undertake a prescribing qualification (if not already obtained).

      We have a rapidly expanding team of healthcare professionals within the Practice, including GPs, Nurses, advanced nurse practitioners, health care assistants, nursing associates, paramedics and clinical pharmacists. We are also a training practice for GP Registrars and regularly have medical students with us from both the University of Oxford and University of Buckingham. Training and education are a central ethos within the Practice and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved.

      Main duties of the job

      The role will entail working alongside our existing paramedic and advanced nurse practitioner and involves coordination of care by telephone triage, delivering urgent and emergency care to patients in surgery and during home visits. The ideal candidates would be able to work as an autonomous practitioner and have minor illness and minor injury qualifications. Existing experience in primary care and a prescribing qualification are desirable but not essential.

      Clinical Care:

      Act as an emergency care practitioner, demonstrating advanced clinical competence and a knowledge base beyond those associated with conventional nursing roles.

      Triage patients on our Duty Doctor list.

      Undertake consultations with patients as an autonomous practitioner and using own clinical judgement to diagnose, treat, refer and/or discharge patients.

      Make direct referrals to primary, secondary and social services within locally agreed pathways, guidance and protocols.

      Provide clinical advice to Reception staff where required.

      Ensure that patients receive high quality clinical care, delivered in a timely manner.

      Ensure complete and accurate documentation of each and every patient contact.

      Work as an autonomous practitioner and as part of multi-disciplinary and multiagency teams in order to ensure patients needs are met.

      Visit patients at home where necessary

      Act as the emergency care lead for the practice, reviewing emergency protocols and providing updates and training to staff as appropriate.

      Adhere to the HCPC Code of Professional Conduct and at all times work within the scope of professional practice.

      Ensure that professional practice adheres to organisational and HCPC policies, procedures and guidelines.
