- Provides exceptional customer service through careful listening and understanding of customer issues and uses personal initiative to resolve issues in a manner consistent with adopted policies, code/regulations, and procedures.
- Responds to citizen inquiries regarding local planning regulations and ordinances.
- Gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations.
- Provides information and review on land use, site plans, variances, applications, ordinances, codes, regulations and any other related planning programs and services.
- Conducts technical research studies and analysis and prepare statistical reports and recommendations;
- Assists in the development, evaluation, and implementation of growth management, land use, economic development, utility, housing, transportation, public facilities or other plans and codes;
- Serves as a staff member of the City's Development Review Committee (DRC).
- Assists City staff in the interpretation of City codes and master plans.
- Assists in designs for parks, streetscapes, landscapes and other municipal projects.
- Performs all needed field inspections.
- Prepares graphs, addressing and map updates.
- Assists in maintaining the database of information for planning purposes.
- Reviews building permits and redlines per building code and zoning.
- Provides assistance to public in interpreting planning procedures for compliance with City codes, regulations and ordinances.
- Attends all Planning & Zoning meetings; takes minutes and transcribes meetings; posts meeting minutes, agenda and back-up material to website for public.
- Creates and posts public hearing notices for all DRC and Planning & Zoning meetings.
- Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Urban & Regional Development or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
- Three (3) years of related work experience.
- Must possess a valid state of Florida driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must possess FEMA 100, 200, and 700 certifications, or the ability to obtain within the first six (6) months of employment.
- Knowledge of State of Florida growth management statutes.
- Knowledge of community development functions, policies and procedures, zoning laws and comprehensive plans including their formation, process of adoption, and enforcement.
- Knowledge of general zoning and land development ordinances and regulations, subdivision application process, and zoning appeals process.
- Knowledge of processes of approving land use amendments, abandonments, and plats.
- Knowledge of urban and regional planning, development and redevelopment, and project management.
- Knowledge of general land-use planning processes.
- Knowledge of GIS applications.
- Knowledge of city and departmental policies and procedures.
- Skill in the use of small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Skill in using computers for data entry.
- Skill in using computers for word processing and accounting purposes.
- Skill in public speaking and presentations.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Ability to plan, organize work and meet deadlines.
- Ability to interpret zoning and subdivision maps plans, engineering drawings and architectural renderings.

- Ability to establish effective working relationships with contractors, developers, home owners, architects, engineers, supervisors, employees, elected officials and public.
- Work environment is typically performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity and responsiveness to changes that include goals, priorities, and needs of the organization and position.
- The work is light and requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
- Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: manual dexterity, hearing, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

What you'll be doing:
This position performs professional level planning work for the City’s Planning and Zoning department. The Planner conducts comprehensive plan amendments, zoning map amendments, site plan reviews and development agreement evaluations. This role identifies planning issues, researches and gathers data, analyzes alternatives and provides recommendations for implementing zoning changes, develops plans and other projects that align with City planning initiatives while ensuring compliance with applicable development codes and state statutes.About the company
