      Point of Care Coordinator

      Position Summary:

      The Point of Care Coordinator (POCC) works under the direction of the Point of Care Supervisor to facilitate Point of Care (POC) testing at Kootenai Health (KH), including: monitoring policies and procedures for all POC tests; ensuring that POC testing meets all regulatory standards; providing assistance and oversight to all testing sites including instrument trouble shooting; and maintaining quality processes and compliance.

      Responsibilities:


      • Studies validation and correlation studies on all POC testing devices according to established protocols

      • Keeps up to date and informing personnel of any manufacturer changes in procedure

      • Works with Education to provide training and annual competency checks for all employees performing POC testing

      • A limited degree of creativity and latitude is required

      • Reports to the Point of Care Supervisor

      • Performs other related duties as assigned

      • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field

      • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

      • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function

      • Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned

      Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:


      • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Microbiology, Chemistry or Biology is required
      • Successful completion of MLS (ASCP) examination. Other comparable certification credentials may be acceptable to the laboratory administrative director and /or chief pathologist
      • At least two years’ experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist working in a hospital laboratory required

      Working Conditions:


      • Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
      • Typical equipment used in a clinical job
      • Must be able to lift and move up to 25 lbs
      • Exposure to hazardous chemicals, acids, cleaning solution, disinfectants, soaps, etc.
      • Exposure to needles, blood and body fluids, etc.
      • Exposure to electrical/ mechanical harm, i.e faulty equipment

      • Those with a primary position as a PRN will receive per diem pay. Per Diem rates are tiered depending on number of years of employment.

      • If an advanced background check with Health and Welfare is required for your role and you have not completed one previously, you will need to complete the process before your transfer date.
