      About the opportunity

      The Blood Collection Service is responsible for providing collection services across numerous sites within the Sydney Local Health District (SLHD). The RPA Collections Registered Nurse is part of a large and diverse team of pathology collectors and administration staff (classified as Registered Nurses, Technical Assistants, Administration Officers), and will work with Pathology staff and the LHD to provide a high level service. The role encompasses problem solving, decision making, communicating, coaching and counselling skills in the coordination of staff and service provision, to provide an exemplary Pathology Collection Service. Contribute to a customer-focused pathology collection service for inpatients and outpatients.
      Perform venepuncture on inpatients and outpatients as required within a team & Support and participate in the provision of safe, effective, customer-focused pathology service provision

      1. Registered Nurse with current registration through the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia approved qualification
      2. Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical staff
      3. Previous venepuncture experience familiar with pathology terminology and requirements and the willingness to learn paediatric and neonate blood collection
      4. Display initiative, problem solving and analytical skills including an ability to apply established principles in a pathology setting and investigate and resolve general and complex issues within the work environment
      5. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery of pathology services, including the use of Patient, Rostering and Quality systems, with an understanding of policies and requirements relevant to a clinical setting
      6. Commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities

      Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases

      This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand NSW Health Policy Directive PD2023_022 Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Infectious Diseases . All recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. All recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.

      All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

      Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

      The preferred candidate may be required to undergo a functional assessment prior to appointment.
