      This is an opportunity to join the Octopus office in Melbourne or Sydney. The successful applicant will be able to join the Octopus Investments Australia team on their mission to accelerate Australia's transition to a future powered by renewable energy.

We have big ambitions to become the premier developer/owner/operator of renewable energy assets in Australia and have a strong pipeline of projects including solar, wind and grid battery storage across the country.

      Job Description

      About the role

      The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for the delivery of Octopus’s projects at all stages of the project lifecycle including origination/investment, development, construction and operation. Reporting to the Head of EPC, the Project Engineering team supports the wider Octopus Australia organisation giving the successful candidate exposure across all of its business activities.

      Project Management/Engineering

      The successful candidate will be expected to lead the construction stage delivery of renewable energy projects including:

      • Management of scope, program, budget and resources.
      • Management of project teams of multidisciplinary internal and external experts, including planning, legal, grid, environmental and engineering advisors.
      • Management advisors, consultants, OEMs and construction contractors (including EPC contractors).
      • Management of procurement processes and contract negotiations, administering executed contracts.
      • Development of relationships with relevant stakeholders including: landholders, community and regulators.
      • Development of project plans including timelines, costs, risk assessments, project financials and progress reports.
      • Development of required inputs for internal reporting including management papers, board papers as required.
      • Work collaboratively with the investment, development and asset management teams to ensure best project outcomes.
      • Development of systems, processes, and tools for project management.

      Engineering support

      The successful candidate will also be part of a team providing engineering support to the wider Octopus Australia business. Our project managers/engineers will be expected to:

      • Assist the wider investment team by providing engineering input into technical due diligence processes during acquisition transactions. Assisting with engineering/technical inputs into financial models, supporting overall project business case development.
      • Assist the wider development team by providing engineering input into consenting and procurement activities, management of early works.
      • Assist the wider asset management team to analyse plant performance, providing engineering input into issues investigations to support portfolio operational activities.
      • Support our fundraising efforts, including assistance with investor relations, promoting the Octopus profile, and supporting our fund managers with engineering expertise as required.

      Qualifications

      Skills, Experience and Qualifications

      We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:

      • Eligibility to work in Australia – visa sponsorship is not offered.
      • Engineering qualifications. Candidates with an engineering background in renewable energy, electrical, civil or a related engineering discipline are encouraged to apply.
      • Exceptional contract and project management skills. The candidate must be highly organised, confident in managing large and complex contracts and able to handle relationships with project stakeholders effectively, sometimes in challenging circumstances.
      • Strong understanding of engineering design processes. Evidence of managing complex engineering activities in a fast-paced environment.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
      • Candidates must demonstrate a commercial mindset and in particular be able to consider technical challenges in a broader commercial and investment context.
      • Knowledge of broad Health, Safety and Environmental practices, legislation, and requirements.
      • A strong team player with the attitude to deliver results collaboratively.
      • A self-starter with tenacity, initiative, and a willingness to learn.
