- Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of related experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience in designing and conducting qualitative and quantitative research.
- Experience working with large spatial datasets in a GIS software and completing spatial analysis in vector and/or raster format.
- Experience scripting spatial analyses in the Python programming language (and/or other programming language with willingness to learn Python) using common geospatial libraries.
- Ability to summarize and graphically display results from large datasets programmatically and/or in desktop software.
- Experience analyzing natural resource data relevant to the management of marine ecosystems.
- Experience assessing and analyzing natural and anthropogenic processes affecting marine ecosystems in British Columbia and/or experience working with legislation, policy and/or procedures relevant to managing the marine environment.
- Experience writing technical documents, such as guidelines, protocols, or statistical reports in a clear, concise, and effective manner for technical audiences.
The Team
The Cumulative Effects Framework (CEF) is an established team with more than a decade of experience supporting natural resource management across British Columbia. The team is made up of three closely connected groups: the Values team, which leads assessment design; the GIS team, which conducts assessments and publishes data; and the Policy and Guidance team, which develops tools to help others interpret and apply this information. Together, they work with a wide range of professionals across the natural resource sector to produce clear, consistent assessments that support evidence‑based decisions. The CEF is a collaborative, supportive, and diverse group of experts who value innovation, shared learning, and creating high‑quality products that make a meaningful difference for communities and ecosystems in B.C.The Role
The Marine Data Analyst supports the Cumulative Effects Framework by leading spatial and statistical analysis, developing innovative modelling approaches, and helping staff work through complex data projects specific to the marine environment. In this role, you will collaborate with subject matter experts to prepare and share high‑quality data that informs decisions across the province. About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
