- Participate in Sanford Learning Lab Meetings (weekly or bi-weekly).
- Complete necessary IRB or IRB support for external partners.
- Develop and program online surveys.
- Communicate with external stakeholders about data collection and analysis.
- Engage in data collection activities, including interviews, focus groups, and surveys.
- Analyze both quantitative data (descriptive and correlational data) and qualitative data (thematic analysis) in collaboration with leadership and stakeholders
- Write-up data reports, in collaboration with leadership and stakeholders
- Write-up literature reviews and other research briefs focused on the research topics identified in collaboration with Research Fellows and the Director of Research.
- Partner with external evaluators and partners to execute research projects.
- Participate in research-practice partnerships, engaging stakeholders in authentic ways.
- Ensure evaluations incorporate equity principles (e.g., disaggregation of data, understanding ways in which programs support effective implementation of all students).
- Provide project management support for ongoing projects, informing day-to-day workflow by tracking priorities, creating and managing timelines, and informing the status of deliverables.
- Provide administrative support to the team with day-to-day tasks including monitoring tasks, scheduling appointments, and follow-up communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist with coordination and planning logistics for major research and policy projects
- Complete special projects and other duties assigned.
- Must be a current National University graduate student.
- Bachelor's Degree is required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in education, research, or policy preferred.
- Experience in social and emotional development, equity, or culturally responsive practices preferred.
- Strong knowledge based in both child development and educational contexts.
- Exceptional interpersonal, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with underserved populations in high-need communities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel with some overnight involved (when allowed).
- Ability to analyze qualitative data.

Compensation Range:
: $20.00 - $22.00
Position Description
Student employees are in part-time positions hired for short-term projects not to exceed one thousand (1,000) hours per year. Unless otherwise stated or as prescribed by law, National University does not provide student employees with benefits including accrued sick and vacation, health and life insurance, or other benefits. Student employee positions are available for students enrolled and attending courses, undergraduate and graduate students in any school or program, and full-time or part-time students.
The Research Assistant for the Sanford Learning Lab, supported by the Academies at NU, is a part-time (10-20 hours per week), graduate student worker opportunity with National University. The Research Assistant supports research activities and analyzes data that is collected through the Harmony Academy and its implementation of the Harmony Curriculum to promote continuous improvement of the programs, tools, and professional learning offered by Harmony. Additionally, the incumbent plays a key role to enact, implement, and write-up impact evaluations, research-practice partnerships, and other data analytic needs across the organization, including literature reviews, research reviews, and practitioner-friendly briefs.
The Research Assistant provides research assistance and support for the Director of Research, Research Fellows, and Sanford Scholars, providing research literature, data collection and data analysis, and write-ups of both quantitative and qualitative data, ensuring an equity lens is taken to data collection and analysis. Opportunities will also be provided for the Research Assistant to engage internal and external research stakeholders, provide support to external evaluators, ensure tasks are executed in a timely manner, and provide IRB support. Specifically, this individual will conduct research to ensure a deeper understanding of SEL as a resource for equity and excellence, as well as stronger implementation and fidelity of the Harmony Curriculum to meet the needs of all students. Additionally, the incumbent will support research publications and grants.
