      Req#: 42663

Fraunhofer is actively involved in the field of quantum technologies and operates the first quantum computer in Germany (Ehningen) together with IBM. In this innovative environment, ITWM is establishing a competence center on quantum computing. CC-HPC at the Fraunhofer ITWM is located at the interface between high performance computing and quantum computing and is dedicated to the software stack between quantum algorithms and quantum hardware. For the further development of this research field, we are looking for support as soon as possible.

If you are interested in helping to shape the future of quantum computing, you have come to the right place!

      What you will do

Compilers in quantum computing translate generic, idealized circuits provided by users into hardware-specific circuits. Finding efficient and – taking into account the hardware parameters – optimal solutions is crucial.
As a compiler builder, you are dedicated to this exciting interface. You are open to new ideas and collaborate with other leading research institutions.

What you bring to the table

      • A successfully completed university degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or Natural Sciences
      • Interest in research and development in the field of compiler construction and quantum computing
      • Experience with compiler architectures (especially LLVM)
      • Sound mathematical background
      • Initial programming experience in the field of quantum computing
      • Experience in a classical programming language, e.g. C++, Python
      • Experience with version control (like git, svn)
      • Good knowledge of English, both written and spoken

      What you can expect

Exciting tasks await you in a dedicated, international team of scientists who are completely committed to applied research.

      Furthermore:

      • Access to the IBM Quantum Computer in Ehningen
      • Exciting questions from industrial applications
      • Inter-institute contacts within and outside Fraunhofer
      • Space for your own ideas

Fraunhofer ITWM offers an attractive working environment between research and industrial application. Regular further training and top equipment are a matter of course as well as a corporate culture characterized by collegiality.

Fraunhofer ITWM shows an extraordinary commitment to a family-friendly working environment for its employees*: Flexible working hours and parental leave, a day-care center, the possibility of a home office, organization of health days and sports activities as well as a parent-child-office make Fraunhofer ITWM in Kaiserslautern an attractive employer.

The weekly working time is 39 hours. The position can also be filled on a part-time basis and is initially limited to 2 years.

We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications - regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability. Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits based on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.

With its focus on developing key technologies that are vital for the future and enabling the commercial utilization of this work by business and industry, Fraunhofer plays a central role in the innovation process. As a pioneer and catalyst for groundbreaking developments and scientific excellence, Fraunhofer helps shape society now and in the future.
