The primary responsibilities for Resident Advisors include:
Providing supervision of all residential students.
Assisting in the set-up and clean-up of the UB residence hall common areas or other rooms used by the program.
Assisting in gathering supplies for program activities.
Supervising free time activity for students.
Providing academic assistance during study hall.
Supervising UB students during field trips and/or program events.
Assisting in planning, coordinating , and implementing social, cultural, and recreational activities.
Following and enforcing the rules and regulations of the College and the Upward Bound Program at all times.
Providing supervision during mealtimes .
Participating in nightly staff meetings with the residential team.
Supervising use of all program equipment and immediately reporting any missing or damaged property to the Director.
Assisting in enhancing the living environment and promoting an educational atmosphere in the residence hall.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director .
Ability to take appropriate steps to promote and sustain effective working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment
Be able to work safely in compliance with the College Injury and Illness Prevention Plan
Experience in a college residential setting
Experience with low-income, first generations college-bound students
Ability to be punctual, professional, positive, motivated, interactive, and flexible
Ability to multitask, handle stress, model behavior that is expected of students and take initiative to address unexpected program or participant needs
Ability to create and maintain appropriate boundaries with students and other program staff
Upon selection , RA must submit fingerprints for the Department of Justice Background Check
Have completed sophomore year in college or university
Be in good academic standing at college or university
About the Opportunity
Historical Overview
Mills College @ Northeastern University is home to the Mills College @ Northeastern University Upward Bound Program (MCUB) and will serve approximately 200 students from Oakland and West Contra Costa County this summer. TRIO Programs are educational opportunity outreach programs designed to motivate and educationally support students from low-income and first-generation college-going backgrounds. The MCUB program provides academic, social/cultural awareness, college prep, career exploration, and financial literacy services to its participants. Our goal is to support students through high school graduation and help them gain access to postsecondary education. The Summer Academic Program will provide academic instruction in core subjects: English, Lab Sciences, and Mathematics. The MCUB Summer Academic Program will also provide workshops exploring various topics including Life Skills, Study Skills, and Time Management .
Summer Academic Program Description
The MCUB Program offers a six-week summer academic program for students entering grades 9th through 12th. The MCUB summer academic program will be conducted at Mills College @ Northeastern University in Oakland, CA. Instruction for the MCUB Summer Academic Program is scheduled to begin Monday, June 12, 2023, and continue through Friday, July 21, 2023 .
Residential Program:
Summer RA residential stay begins on Sunday, July 9, 2023, and continues through Friday, July 21st , 2023, followed by a week-long overnight college tour July 2 4 th-28th 202 3 . RAs are required to live in the residence hall from Sunday afternoon 3pm to Friday evening with no residential stay on weekends. The final schedule is subject to change.

Wednesday - – 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 11 pm
Thursday - 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 11 pm
Friday - 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 5 pm or when the last student has gone.
Week 2 - Residential Stay
Sunday – 3 pm to 11 pm
Monday – 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 11 pm
Tuesday – 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 11 pm
Wednesday - – 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 11 pm
Thursday - 7:30 am to 8:30 am & 3 pm to 1111 pm
Friday - 7:30 am to 3 pm or when the last student has gone .
Week 3 Overnight College Tour – Schedule may vary
