      Job Description
      This position is open to Alaska Residents only. Please check our residency definition to determine if you qualify.

      What You Will Be Doing

      This position is a full-proficiency, professional-level role within the Division of Retirement and Benefits (DRB). You will provide counseling and technical assistance to employees and State of Alaska employers who participate in DRB retirement plans. A core responsibility of this position is performing account reconciliations, certifying member account corrections and indebtedness payments, troubleshooting the employer reporting system, and maintaining strong internal controls.

      You will supervise the daily operations of six Active Payroll section staff, supporting the processing of all incoming retirement contributions and related data submitted by more than 150 employers across the State of Alaska. You will resolve complex issues and provide guidance on the practical application State of Alaska Statutes and DRB procedures and techniques to ensure accuracy and high-quality service. The position is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial information through multiple reconciliations and review processes. Intermediate Microsoft Excel proficiency is preferred.

      This position also provides both formal and informal training to staff and employers statewide. The Division is currently developing a state-of-the-art retirement system, including a new employer reporting portal. You will work closely with the system vendor to support testing and to train employers, helping to ensure successful implementation of the new retirement system.

The Division of Retirement and Benefits continues to support the needs of retirees while providing customer services to active members. The mission of the Finance section/Active Payroll section is to provide timely and accurate contribution reporting for the retirement plans administered by the Division.

      The Working Environment You Can Expect

      This position is located at 400 Willoughby, across the street from the State Office Building in beautiful downtown Juneau. The office hours are typically between 7:30 and 4:00 or 8:00 and 4:30 Monday through Friday.
