      ABOUT THE POSITION


      EL Education’s Crew Curriculum is designed to meet students’ social, emotional and academic needs and foster purpose, agency, and belonging. Crew provides an opportunity for high school students to build healthy relationships with adults and peers, have honest and courageous conversations about issues that impact their lives, grow academically, make plans for their postsecondary journey, and take on leadership in the school and in their communities.


      The grades 9-12 Crew Curriculum is being piloted in schools during the 2023-24 school year, and all ready-to-publish materials will be complete by June 30, 2024. The Reviewer, Crew Curriculum is an integral part of the Crew design team. The reviewer will review Crew lesson plans as they are written by writers, applying existing criteria consistently and efficiently, and collaborate to refine the criteria and design processes where appropriate. The reviewer will also support initial lesson design through feedback and thought partnership.


      The Reviewer, Crew Curriculum is a 20 hour per week position between now and June 30, 2024. We seek someone who can begin immediately.


      RESPONSIBILITIES


      The Reviewer, Crew Curriculum will report to the Director, Instructional Products, and will:

      • Provide kind, specific, and helpful feedback on lessons, monthly overview documents, and other guidance documents, ensuring consistency, coherence, and quality.

      • Apply existing design criteria consistently and efficiently.

      • Review lessons with specific focus on:

        • Social-emotional learning outcomes, purpose, supporting all students (including culturally responsive education, trauma-informed practices, and differentiation), simplicity and pacing, and alignment and transfer.

        • Planning for the postsecondary journey: considering opportunities and clarifying goals for life after high school, and aligning time during grades 9-12 with those goals.

        • Academic advisory that centers student goal-making and Crew leader and peer feedback.

      • Coach and provide feedback to designers in a respectful and growth-oriented manner.

      • Collaborate closely with other reviewers and the lead designer to ensure K-12 alignment and continuous improvement as the project evolves.

      • As needed, carry out special projects or problem-solving as assigned by the Director, Instructional Products.

      • Honor EL Education’s organizational norms: building relationships; proactively communicating; naming milestones and celebrating successes; promoting reflection and ongoing improvement.

      CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS


      A successful candidate will have:

      • Proven passion, experience, and deep expertise in teaching and learning, specifically the ability to address the social-emotional learning needs of all students.

      • A master’s degree in education, specialization in social-emotional learning or curriculum design (preferred).

      • Curriculum design expertise (backward design, holding the big picture and purpose, alignment).

      • At least one year of curriculum reviewing experience, preferably of a curriculum with a nationwide scope.

      • Experience coaching teachers on how to promote students' social-emotional learning (preferred).

      • Commitment to EL Education’s model of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and habits of character.

      • Familiarity with EL Education’s "Crew" model (preferred) or other social-emotional learning curricula.

      • Commitment to cultural responsiveness; diversity, equity, inclusion; and anti-racism.

      • An awareness of when and how to escalate design dilemmas so the team can collectively problem-solve the most effective approach.

      • Outstanding writing and editing skills.

      • Extraordinary written and verbal communications skills (phone, email, in-person, video conference).

      • Ability to manage complex tasks and tight deadlines independently and proactively.

      • A keen eye for detail and the ability to triage and problem-solve.

      • Strong self-motivation and self-management skills; an effective independent worker.

      • Ability to collaborate flexibly in the virtual environment while working toward a common goal.

      • A flexible schedule to allow for the ebb and flow of review deadlines.

      • Commitment to self-reflection and a growth mindset as a member of a high-functioning team.


      COMPENSATION

      $59.00 - $80.00 per hour, based on experience
