Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a GP to join our team to cover 3 to 4 sessions per week in a friendly, dynamic, and forward-thinking, single-site surgery in Harrogate. We have an outstanding clinical and nursing team, situated in modern, purpose-built premises in the heart of this historic Spa town.
Strayside Health is a recently formed practice (following the successful merger of East Parade and Park Parade Surgeries in April 2025). Before the merger, both practices worked closely together for a number of years, sharing our Nurse Team and back-office staff (medical secretaries, data quality and administration teams).
Our newly merged practice is progressive and keen to embrace change whilst maintaining the traditional values of patient centred general practice.
We have a great team ethos in our workforce, with strong staff retention.
We are friendly and supportive with a focus on staff wellbeing and for many years have continued the tradition of our valuable daily GP coffee meeting.
Routine clinics compromise of a mix of telephone and 15-minute face-to-face consultation appointments, including 25% of routine surgery time being protected for clinical admin and a defined number of appointments per routine session.
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who share our values and are ready to embrace the challenges of the future with our team. We can be flexible about start dates and informal enquiries are welcome.
Main duties of the job
In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, eConsultations, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
Actioning a share of blood results and incoming clinical documents, both paper and electronic
Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers
Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
Offering preventative advice
Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
Referring to other care providers as appropriate
Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
Collecting data for audit purposes
Prescribing in accordance with the CCG or practice prescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate
In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

We are committed to providing high quality primary care. There are six GP Partners and nine Salaried GPs with a range of skills and interests.
We have developed innovative systems to manage our workload. This includes having a shared Clinical Administration Team, Data Quality Team and Medical Secretary Service. These teams are shared amongst both practices at Mowbray Square Medical Centre, giving us a strong infrastructure to support GPs and safely reduce administrative workload.
Our highly skilled and experienced Nurse Team consists of a Practice Nurse, Nurse Associate and two Healthcare Assistants, who are led by our Lead Nurse.
We have formal responsibility for three care homes for the elderly and two learning disability care homes. Named GPs offer a fixed regular commitment to these homes under a local ICB scheme.
Nominated GP leads for safeguarding, QOF, finance, patient services, womens health, prescribing, palliative care, diabetes and nursing care ensures a structured supportive system across the practice.

About the company
National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
