- The SCADA & Controls Engineer for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) leads the design, development, integration, commissioning, and lifecycle support of SCADA and control systems deployed across utility-scale energy storage projects.
- This role serves as a technical expert in BESS controls, ensuring reliable system performance, seamless integration with grid infrastructure, and adherence to operational, regulatory, and cybersecurity requirements.
- Develop and implement BESS control system logic programming languages (e.g., Function Block, Ladder, Structured Text).
- Design HMI/SCADA interfaces, graphics, alarm management, trends, and historian configuration to support real-time and long-term performance monitoring.
- Configure and integrate industrial communication protocols (Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3, CANbus, BACnet, OPC-UA/DA, etc.) into plant automation and enterprise systems.
- Specify, configure, and test controllers, PLC/RTU hardware, HMI panels, networking equipment, and communication architectures.
- Manage full-lifecycle SCADA project delivery including scope definition, system design, vendor coordination, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and turnover to operations.
- Develop project schedules, milestones, risk assessments, and deliverables to align with engineering, construction, and commercial timelines.
- Serve as SCADA Subject Matter Expert (SME) providing guidance across development, engineering, construction, commissioning, and operations teams.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with project managers, field engineering, cybersecurity, commercial operations, and analytics/AI groups.
- Oversee commissioning of SCADA and control systems for utility-scale BESS, including function testing, performance validation, and grid integration.
- Conduct remote and onsite troubleshooting, system tuning, and control optimization.
- Ensure systems meet performance guarantees, operational requirements, and regulatory/utility standards.
- Configure and maintain historian systems and APIs for high-frequency data capture, storage, and analytics.
- Support data-driven decision-making by enabling integration with enterprise analytics platforms, AI/ML tools, and reporting dashboards.
- Provide ongoing support for operational sites, including controls upgrades, alarm rationalization, and cybersecurity compliance updates.
- Standardize SCADA and control system templates, documentation, and engineering workflows to enhance reliability and repeatability across the fleet.
- Previous experience with utility-scale renewable energy or battery storage projects.
- Excellent technical leadership, communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
