Job Description

- Assists K-3 students with the selection of books appropriate to their reading level.
- Reads aloud to assigned K-3 students.
- Provides specific literacy instruction to individual K-3 students or small groups using curricular materials as assigned by the school.
- May deliver additional reading skill instruction using the Columbus Metropolitan Library’s processes and materials.
- Documents student progress.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Experience and desire to work with elementary age children required.
- Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs (i.e. Windows/Microsoft Office) and other job-related equipment and systems.
- Reliable transportation to promptly report to job assignment.
Note: This position runs concurrently with the 2023-2024 academic calendar year and aligns with scheduled school breaks and closures.
SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 8:45am - 12:00pm
PURPOSE OF JOB
The School Reading Assistant provides one-on-one reading and writing support to K-3 students at targeted Franklin County School Districts. School Reading Assistants provide literacy instruction and read aloud to students in school classrooms, as assigned by the school.

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles (e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, and/or working in moderate outdoor weather conditions).
Work requires occasional lifting or pushing of up to 20 lbs. and the frequent lifting or pushing of up to 10 lbs.
