      Job Summary

      Come work as a Secretary/Unit Clerk with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Secretary/Unit Clerk to join the Outpatient Care Centre (OCC) team at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC. Apply today to join our team!

      As an Secretary/Unit Clerk you will:

      • Perform clerical/receptionist functions in the support of the delivery of client care.
      • Duties include:
        • Processing physicians’ orders by scheduling and booking client appointments,
        • Follow up visits and tests and referrals,
        • maintaining and updating a client/patient database,
        • retrieving data,
        • summarizing information and preparing pre-programmed reports as directed, receiving and directing clients to appropriate areas,
        • responding to general telephone enquires and/or directing callers to appropriate health care providers.
      • Arrange schedules to meet changing demands/requests, assembles and maintain client charts and prepare and confirm client information, enter data into a computerized system, update client information and arrange for client transportation as needed.
      • Provide clerical functions such as typing a variety of technical and non-technical materials utilizing a variety of software programs.
      • Maintains departmental equipment, supplies and filing systems.

      Qualifications

      Education & Experience

      • Grade 12, graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program.
      • Two (2) year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

      • Ability to type 50 wpm.
      • Knowledge of medical terminology.
      • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
      • Ability to deal with others effectively.
      • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
      • Ability to organize work.
      • Ability to operate related equipment.

      The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
