      Overview

      Under general direction, the Senior Accountant is involved in a wide variety of advanced accounting activities in the accounting department. This role reviews and manages high-level work functions, assisting and mentoring associates in junior accounting roles. Using accumulated accounting knowledge and skills, this individual critically reviews and analyzes financial data and creates reports on financial status. Their excellent verbal and written communication skills enable them to develop and share financial information with managers and leaders including accounting reports of various complexity. This may include advanced research, analysis and recommendations as well as various projects. Communicates to manager on status of projects and initiatives.

      Responsibilities

      • Reviews contracts and analyzes the impact of financial terms and conditions
      • Processes invoices in accordance with the contract terms
      • Interprets data and identifies financial trends and variances
      • Formulates relevant financial data to record more complex accounting entries to insure accurate financial reporting for close cycles
      • Performs complex variance analyses and account reconciliations
      • Identifies potential areas for process improvements and proposes enhancements
      • Prepares advanced, complex financial reports
      • Coordinates work flow within specified area, assuring quality standards are upheld
      • Monitors quality of work of junior level associates in the department
      • Remains current on industry best practices and leverages technology for enhanced accuracy and process improvements
      • Researches information and provides timely responses to internal and external audit requests
      • Provides work guidance to the team to assure completion of accurate month end close cycle
      • Trains and mentors junior level associates
      • Remains current on the latest accounting rules, regulations, and practices

      Qualifications

      Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • Strong accounting skills
      • Ability to communicate (written and face-to-face) clearly and professionally at all levels of the organization
      • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial systems and tools
      • Advanced skills in spreadsheets
      • Advanced skills using financial databases
      • Ability to be highly organized, detail oriented, analytical, self-motivated and possess a team attitude
      • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure, deadlines and plan and solve problems
      • Demonstrated strong willingness to learn and grow to meet changing requirements of the business and accounting team

      Experience:

      • 5 or more years of accounting experience

      Required Education:

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred, Finance, Business Management or equivalent experience

      Preferred Training and Certification:

      • Experience in financial accounting systems
      • Experience in financial management reporting and budgeting/forecasting systems
      • Experience with resource timekeeping systems
      • CPA or CMA certification desired

      Working Conditions:

      • Must be able to use equipment at workstation for up to 8 hours daily
      • Working remotely, home office with occasional travel to the Atlanta office
