  Band 7/8a Clinical Psychologist (Full-time)

  This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist to join the Children's Psychological Medicine team based at the Children's Hospital Oxford. This established role supports delivery of a psychological service to infants and their families admitted to the Oxford Neonatal Unit, as well as the neonatal staff that care for and support them. Oxford Neonatal unit is a large 53 cot surgical neonatal unit with critical care, high dependency, and low dependency nurseries. Psychology plays a key role within the unit; embedded within the MDT to deliver high quality evidence based and family integrated care.

  Children's Psychological Medicine consists of psychologists, psychiatrists and a family therapist, providing opportunities for both formal and informal consultation with staff experienced in a range of therapeutic approaches. The department operates an in-patient rota for the children's hospital and there are lots of opportunities to seek advice and support from colleagues on a daily basis. The team runs monthly Continuing Professional Development (CPD) slots and there are a number of opportunities to develop interests in specific therapeutic models with funds available for additional training.

  The post is advertised at full-time but but we would be happy to consider applications for those who may be looking for a part-time role.

  Main duties of the job

  The post-holder will contribute directly to clinical care through the provision of psychological assessment formulation and therapy, undertaking risk management and risk assessments, and liaising with and advising members of the MDT where appropriate. The post holder will also be required to contribute to the department's in-patient rota which offers a direct (within hours) service to the Children's wards. An important part of the role will be to provide training, debriefs, consultation and support to neonatal colleagues.

  The team is supported by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, a Band 8b psychologist and two Assistant Psychologists and there is access to advice from psychiatry within the wider team. The post holder will attend Children's Psychological Medicine Meetings and will contribute to teaching in the form of Grand Rounds in both the neonatal and Children's settings.

  As well as clinical work there are opportunities to engage in research and the department has strong links with the doctoral training course with regular clinical and research trainees on placement.There is a strong ethos of research and audit under the guidance of the Consultant Lead for Neonates, Dr Jacinta Cordwell.

  Applicants will hold a post graduate doctoral qualification in Clinical Psychology and demonstrate experience in working within clinical health, especially with children, together with a strong academic record, ability and enthusiasm to undertake service related research and audit.
