      Akerman LLP, a top 100 U.S. law firm serving clients across the Americas, is seeking a Senior Docket/Calendar Clerk for its New York office. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating all litigation filings for the litigators in the NY office as well as the other offices of the firm who may require assistance. This role will also provide supplemental support to the NY litigation department when appropriate, and other tasks at the direction of the Director of Paralegal Services. These tasks include but are not limited to drafting form documents and letters; assisting with preparing hearing binders and exhibits; compilation and preparation of discovery documents.

      Primary duties and responsibilities:

      Support the Litigation Department with filings, research and the like. Advise attorneys and staff on rules of procedure, local rules and practices with respect to filing requirements and procedures. File, and/or serve, electronically or by other means, papers in State and Federal courts, including pleadings, motions, and discovery papers. Act as a liaison with Court Personnel. Work with firm’s Docketing Department regarding docketing and calendaring, discovery and other papers. Work with vendors to obtain court files, serve process, and other litigation-related support. Maintain and update electronic databases such as ECF logins, form files, etc. Confirm procedure by performing online research and/or contacting clerks of court. Review papers before service and filing for correct form, signatures, required filing fees, required number of copies, etc. Stay informed on procedural best practices, case trends, and rule changes. Displays professionalism, quality service with a "can do" attitude. Other duties as may be assigned.

      Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

      1. Knowledge of PACER, CourtAlert, NYS Unified Court System, CompuLaw, Courthouse News Service, and Courtlink.
      2. Knowledge of Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, NY Civil Practice Law and Rules, NY Rules of Court, and local practices.
      3. Demonstrated ability in complex filings, both paper and electronic.
      4. Able to effectively work under pressure in a demanding and fast paced environment.
      5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
      6. Able to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment.
      7. Must be detail oriented.
      8. Able to work courteously/effectively with others.
      9. Able to organize and prioritize issues and handle competing priorities.
      10. Able to take initiative in handling projects and anticipating what needs to be done.
      11. Able to raise potential defects with filings based on experience and knowledge.
      12. Flexibility to adjust hours and work necessary to meet operating and business needs.

      Experience:

      Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in a Senior Docket/Calendar Clerk’s office or similar role.

      In addition, successful candidates will possess strong organizational, communication and time management skills and be proficient with MS Office Suite. Candidates must be self-motivated, dependable, have the ability to multitask and work well under pressure. Accuracy and solid attention to detail are required.

      Job Type: Full-Time (40 hours per week)

      Schedule: Monday through Friday

      Salary Range: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00

      Bonus: Discretionary holiday bonus
