      Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

      The Kuiper Solutions Engineering team is a multi-disciplinary technology team involved in developing and delivering targeted solutions for custom satellite and ground applications. The Solutions Engineering team works closely with the core Kuiper team, and addresses the needs of specific customers (such as government agencies). The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a pivotal role in the team delivering innovative and fast-paced analysis and design solutions.

      The Senior Electrical Engineer will be a member of the Solutions Engineering team, focusing on satellite system level analysis as well as on EMI/EMC analysis and the design of the various sensing and control needs (inertial, optical, solar, etc.) of the satellite system. They will be expected to lead a variety of tasks, from board design and component selection, to layout review and board bring-up and test. They will work across teams and support fellow engineers with design reviews and the preparation of joint reports and proposals. The candidate will have a sharp focus on the specific needs of the customer and be able to conduct trades and analyses to show that proposed solutions will meet the customer’s goals.

      The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working on complex programs with a diverse set of talented individuals, as well as with partner organizations (including government agencies). The candidate will exhibit the potential to lead small sub-teams of electrical engineers, and be able to prepare easy-to-read and technically compelling written reports.

      Key job responsibilities
      • Interact directly with customers to understand technical requirements, and translate them into technically robust solutions backed by data and analysis
      • Responsible for any electrical and power accommodations for hosting sensitive RF and communications payloads on a commercial bus, including EMI/EMC evaluation
      • Identify top level customer requirements and ensure high quality and innovative designs are pursued
      • Perform electrical design and layout trade studies for satellite electrical and power sub-systems contributing to overall system architecture including inputs and requirements from cross discipline teams
      • Mechanical, RF, Mechanisms, Materials, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test
      • Facilitate cost trades on multiple parallel configurations for cost/manufacturability vs design uncertainty
      • Deliver well-written documentation, reports, and presentations for technical design reviews and as part of proposal efforts
      • Design and support test campaigns, both development and qualification/acceptance, for space hardware.

      Security Clearance: Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance of TS/SCI, so you must be a U.S. citizen for consideration.

      We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

      Northridge, CA, USA | Redmond, WA, USA• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience
      • 7+ years of experience in hardware development across the full product life cycle (concept to production)
      • 5+ years of electrical engineering work experience in Consumer Electronics, Power Electronics, Robotics, Aerospace, Automotive, and/or Communications fields or combination thereof
      • 2+ years of experience with schematic and layout ECAD tools and with PCB design and debugging• Master's or PhD degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related discipline
      • Experience with complex board designs, such as high-speed interconnects, high-reliability designs, avionics, vehicle control systems, and/or motor & actuator control electronics
      • Experience in development and test of satellite bus systems and space/flight hardware
      • Electronics design/qualification experience with radiation environments or radiation tolerant hardware
      • Experience with rapid iteration prototyping and joint hardware/firmware development; partnering with software engineers to bring-up and test new hardware designs
      • Experience with analysis to define the spacecraft electromagnetic environment including radiated and conducted emissions and susceptibility (RE/CE/RS/CS) to inform design and test of spacecraft
      • Working knowledge of at least one programming language such as Python or C/C++
      • Track record of successfully delivering compelling written reports and complete designs on time, to scope, with high quality
      • High sense of ownership, urgency, and drive; resourceful, and able to deliver results with minimal direction
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills
      • Demonstrated experience working with government agencies

      Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
