      Job Summary

      The Senior HR Business Partner (Senior HRBP) serves as a strategic partner to an assigned group of colleges and/or divisions and is responsible for providing leaders and staff with consultative HR services and support that reflect and advance the goals and objectives of the university. The Senior HRBP formulates partnerships across the HR function and campus community to deliver value-added services in areas such as employee relations, workforce planning, and organizational development. The Senior HRBP supports the Director of Employee Relations & HR Partnerships in fostering the onboarding and development of the HRBPs and in managing complex HR projects/initiatives.

      Job Responsibilities

      • Assesses and anticipates HR-related needs for assigned colleges and/or divisions. Provides strategic HR support in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives in areas such as employee relations, performance management, workforce planning, and organizational development. Meets on a regular basis with assigned groups to build and develop trusted relationships with leadership and staff.
      • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements and RIT policies related to the day-to-day management of employees. Provides related direction to assigned colleges and divisions with interpretation of, and compliance with, federal and state discrimination and employment laws and regulations, including university policies and HR policies, procedures, and practices. Partners with legal counsel as appropriate.
      • Provides guidance and counsel to assigned colleges and/or divisions regarding employee relations issues and employment actions. Works closely with managers and employees to address and resolve employee relations issues. Recommends corrective action when appropriate and assists in the delivery of the corrective action as necessary.
      • Recommends and issues determinations and related outcomes/sanctions in policy related matters, including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, conflict of interest, Title IX, etc. Receives complaints and partners with appropriate departments (Office of Compliance and Ethics, Institutional Audit, Public Safety) to conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations of employee complaints. Serves as alternate to the Director of Employee Relations & HR Partnerships for Title IX hearings.
      • Serves as a mentor to HRBPs and supports the onboarding and development efforts for the HRBP team. Reviews HRBP work as appropriate. Reviews and approves transactional items with an understanding of department and college structure and through the lens of university policy and practice. Establishes partnerships across other HR functions including Operations, Compensation, Benefits, Talent Acquisition, and Talent Development to deliver value-added services to leaders and staff.
      • Supports the Director of Employee Relations in managing complex HR projects and initiatives.

      Required Qualifications

      • Bachelor's degree
      • Minimum 7 + years of professional HR experience required, including experience working with multiple human resource disciplines including employee relations, compensation, recruitment, compliance, learning and development, etc.

      Preferred Qualifications

      • Prior work experience in higher education.
      • Demonstrated success working in a decentralized environment.
      • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP.
      • Familiarity with Workday.
      • Familiarity with Title IX.
      • Proficiency/fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
